Why add AI chat to a Wix site
Many Wix sites belong to small service businesses: a salon, a restaurant, a photographer, a tutor. The owner is busy serving customers, and the questions come at awkward times. A chat agent can answer the repeatable ones and take a message for the rest.
- Answer prices, services, opening hours, parking and cancellation terms from text you paste.
- Point visitors at your booking page with a link. The agent does not make bookings itself, and there is no native Wix Bookings connector.
- Outside business hours, collect a name and contact details so you can reply in the morning.

Install on Wix in six steps
The Wix install guide has the full details. In short:
Check the requirements
You need a Wix Premium plan and a connected domain. Free wixsite.com addresses do not allow custom code in this way.
Allow your domain
Add your live origin, such as
https://www.example.com, to Allowed origins in SiteTrellis. Add the non-www form too if both answer.Open Custom Code
In Wix Settings find Custom code (sometimes under Advanced) and choose Add custom code.
Paste and configure
Paste the snippet, name it, apply it to All pages, keep Load code once selected and place it in Body - end.
Apply and publish
Click Apply, then publish the site; nothing changes until you do.
Test on the published domain
Open the live address in a private window and look for the launcher.
The editor does not show the widget, and that is normal
The Wix editor and its preview mode generally do not run custom code, and they are served from different addresses than your live site. New Wix users often conclude the install failed. Always test on the published site.
Wix Studio and the older Editor X use the same site-level Custom Code setting. If you build with Velo you can add the script from page code, but Custom Code is simpler. Regular pages, Wix Stores, Bookings and member areas work with the widget; app-controlled pages such as the checkout may not run custom code, so test the pages you care about.
Wix troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause and fix |
|---|---|
| Custom code option missing | The site is on a free plan or has no connected domain. Upgrade and connect a domain. |
| Works on one address only | Wix serves both the www and non-www host. Add both origins in SiteTrellis. |
| Two launchers | The code was added twice, for example at head and at body end. Remove one. |
| Widget says it is unavailable | No published agent for the site, or the account is over its plan limit. |
| Missing on the live site | You did not publish after adding the code, or the entry is paused or limited to some pages. |
Check the Network tab for widget.js; if it loads but the config request is blocked, the origin is not allowed. More in troubleshooting.
What to paste as knowledge for a Wix business site
- A services list with durations and prices, written the way customers ask: “How long does a cut take?”
- Opening hours, address, parking and transport directions.
- Cancellation, deposit and late policies.
- For a restaurant: allergen statements you are sure of, group booking rules, dietary options.
- For a freelancer: what is included in each package, typical turnaround and what is out of scope.
Set business hours in the agent so it behaves differently when you are closed, and use a pre-chat or lead form to gather contact details. See business hours and lead capture. Telling the agent who a logged-in member is needs Velo code and is optional; the agent can simply ask for a name and email.
Honest limits on Wix
Free Wix plans cannot run the widget. The agent has no Wix Bookings, Stores or CRM connector, cannot take payments, and does not read your Wix pages: knowledge is pasted text. Replies arrive whole rather than streaming. Browse the integrations overview for the rest, or compare the Squarespace route.
